PARCELS FOR FINLAND
RED CROSS DISTRIBUTION GIFTS INCLUDE FUR COATS Pile sympathy which the people of Auckland feel for those of Finland has been well demonstrated in the amazingly generous response to the appeal for gift parcels made by the lied Cross Society. For some weeks the ladies' committee of the society has been packing clothes to send to Finland, the work h.a\ ing been carried out at the society's headquarters. The packers are members of the central comforts committee and the donors have included citizens of Auckland and surrounding districts ass well as a number of Finnish residents.
Every parcel delivered at the headquarters, some of which came anonymously, had to be carried to the packing room, where their contents were sorted and repacked into huge cases. Many parcels contained clothing of different kinds, even to well-conditioned fur coats, while all ages and both sexes were catered for in the clothing donations.
With inventories having to be made of the goods, the group-leader, Mrs. Simich, evolved a useful system of sorting, inspecting, counting and packing so that progress in the work was rapid and smooth. The cases now filled and liberally sprinkled with moth preventative, will be forwarded to their destination in Finland within the next few days.
