TAKANINI TRACK
PLANS FOB JACK TAR
TRENTHAM TRIP IN VIEW SUCCESS OF T. VERNER'S TEAM A trip to Trentham is in view for tlto Franklin Cup winner Jack Tar, and unless present intentions are altered lie will leave on Saturday to compete at the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting. There is also a prospect of Jack Tar competing at Feilding before he returns. Two other Takanini horses nominated for the Wellington meeting are Orelio and Arvakur, whose presence should stimulate interest in the short races. The horses have all come through their recent racing in good stylo.
Private trainer to the lion. E. It. Davis and Mr. O. Nicholson, T. Verner has achieved a good deal of success for his patrons during the current season, his charges having earned over .C 1000 in stakes. The horses trained by Verner have maintained their form well, and the principal winner lias been Ganios, with over CISOO. Ganios is nothing if not consistent, and in 18 starts this season has recorded three wins and ton minor placings. Ganios looks nono the worse for his exertions and should be capable of extending his record.
The return to form of Jack Tar has been pleasing, and he looks a good prospect for autumn and winlor racing, as he is partial to soft going. Agricola, a speedy two-year-old, has been put asido owing to bleeding trouble.
Queen City Thriving Queen City has freshened up nicely after nn easy period, and is to make a reappearance at Paoroa, after which she will contest the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. Te Kawiti has been racing generously without luck, but is in good order and should soon return to the winning list.
After having been under the rare of IT. Gray for some months, Hunting Bee has been transferred back to A. Tinker's stable. Hunting Bee won well in a middle-distance hack race at Kotorua, but her subsequent form has been below expectations. Candidates for Tauranga who will be leaving to-day ure Estro, Aberdovey, Norse Lady and The Dozer. Estro ran a good race at Pukckohe, and her prospects among the hack sprinters are regarded hopefully. The Dozer is working well and should add interest to the chief events, while Aberdovey showed sufficient speed in her first outing at Pukekoho to encourage the belief that she will bo very useful. Aberdovey acted as pacemaker in tlio Tuakau Stakes for the greater part of the journey, and should bo all tho better for the experience.
Yearlings Begin Work So far, five yearlings have put in an appearance on the tracks, the latest addition to their number being a brown filly by Hunting Song—-Lady Lucille, who is a half-sister to Glen Council. The newcomer is one of J. Cruse's team, which was depleted after tho Pukckohe meeting, when Noisy Night .was left in tiiat district following his mediocre showing in the Puni Hurdles. The colt by Vermoer from Hyadcs, who has joined E. Pope's team, has attracted a good (leal of attention. A half-brother to Amnion Ra, Anion and others, he is small and of similar typo to Anion, although a clnrker bay in colour. Tho Yaals -Grand Spirit colt is shaping up nicely under the guidance of L. Abel. 11. Grays pair by Ringmaster and Vcrmeer are doing well. Inver was given his first trial over fences yesterday, and acquitted himself exceptionally well. Disappointing on the flat, Inver may prove an acquisition t-o tho ranks, of hurdlers. Dauber's leg injury has kept him out of active commission for some days, but lie is shortly to resume, and it is hoped to have him ready for the Whangarei meeting. Dauber is a promising hurdler, who should extend his record when he gains further experience.

Spectators were treated to a fine duel in the Approved Handicap at the New South Wales meeting at Harold Park last month between the three-year-olds Lawn King and King Walla, who ran a dead-beat. Tho two colts represent champion pacers, Lawn King being by Lawn Derby and King Walla by Walla Walla.
Pnloinar, who won tho Birthday Handicap at New Brighton, has little in the way of good looks .to recommend him, for he is a big, ungainly black gelding, and his style of going does not represent the poetry of motion. Howover, looks may not stop him from becoming a champion. Ho is game, and his recent performances have shown him to be a good stayer.
