SCHOOL INSURANCES

DEPARTMENT'S WARNING The necessity for school equipment to be insured against fire risk by school committees and head teachers was reaffirmed by the Auckland Education Board when a memorandum from the Department of Education was received at a meeting yesterday. The memorandum stated that some school committees and teachers were not insuring their property against damage by 'fire. The department's liability was confined to rebuilding the 6chool and providing new furniture. The department could not accept responsibility for replacing such items as gramophones, pianos, wireless sets, teachers' and pupils' hooks, and sports material. It was stated that the request from the department that the board should take steps to see that these articles were insured had been covered by a circular sent out by the board last September.
