LOAN OF £25,000

URGENT WHANGAREI WORKS [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday Steps are being taken by the Whangarei Borough Council to borrow the sum of £25,000 as part of the £33,000 storm water loan, for the raising of which authority has been secured. The money is to be expended upon urgent works for flood prevention, and additions to the stormwater and sewer system. The loan is to be raised from the Government Life Insurance Office, the interest rate at 4 \ per cent and the term 20 years. As security for the loan a special rate of nine-tenths of a penny in the pound on the rateable value of the land in the borough is to he struck.

Sprague, the Thames Valley Power Board at its monthly meeting decided to make application to the Local Government Loans Board to borrow £12,000 to meet the board's requirements for the next 12 months. Of the £90,000 loan authorised by ratepayers, £56,000 has been borrowed and expended.
