GENERAL SITUATION / MAINLY CLOUDY TO OVERCAST. The weather report and fqrerast for New Zealand- issued by the Government meteorologist last evening, were ns follows:—A shallow depression lies across the North Island, while an anticyclone centred over southern Australia extends across the Tasnian Sea on to New Zealand.
Winds. —-Moderate to fresh norther]ies to westerlies at first over the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere light to moderate and rather variable, with southerly directions predominating. hut westerlies or northwesterlies later freshening in the far south. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Slight; or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate and variable winds, and slight to moderate seas. Weather. —Cloudy to overcast generally, with in places.
