HOSPITAL STAFFING
Sir. —In your issue of February 27 there appears the report of a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board in connection with the above matter. The chairman is reported as having stated: "They (i.e., the doctors) held out for the rates of £(300 and £IOO adopted in Wellington. Christchurch and Dunedin." I am writing only with a view to having this statement corrected. Apparently - Mr. Moody has been misinformed, as the Wellington Board, of which 1 am chairman of the Building Committee, has not agreed to the rates mentioned, they being the request of the medical staff only. The decision of the Wellington Hospital Board, adopted at the meeting on Eebruary 1, was: "(a) That the salaries of the part-time paid staff be at a per session rate, i.e., £3 10s per session for seniors, and £2 10s per session for juniors, (b) That the hours to be worked be based on the Brisbane scheme, and that the number of hours worked be as flexible as possible." The number of sessions per week per man has yet to be decided, the Director of Clinical Services being instructed to advise on this. It seems only just that this correction should be made. A. H. Carman.
