NORTH AUCKLAND PROTESTS EFFECT ON HARBOUR BOARDS [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Thursday Protest against the action of the •Railways "Department in carrying goods fit reduced rates in certain areas in order to compete for business which could be more economically handled by <>oastal shipping was contained in a remit submitted to the Harbour Boards' Association conference in Wellington by Mr. E. L. Wliimp, representing the IWhangarei, Wliangaroa and Hokianga Harbour Boards. The remit had the full support of je.ll harbour boards and local bodies in lyorth Auckland, said Mr. Whimp. [Years ago they had been promised coordination of road, rail and shipping transport services, so that all might get their legitimate trade. Since then the road services had been eliminated and now it was a tight between the harbour boards and the' railways. The harbour hoards were seriously affected and might go out of existence if something jvere not clone. Mr. D. Holderness, of Auckland, said tilt, protests were useless. The remit war, useless in its existing form. Ho suggested the Minister should be asked to set up a body to investigate the problem. „ It was decided that Mr. Whimp and Mr. Holderness should reword the remit before anything further was done.
