CROSS AWARDED
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE BRAVE SQUADRON-LEADER ENCOUNTERS WITH ENEMY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received February 27, 6.32 p.m.) British Wireless LONDON, Feb. 20 The award of the D.F.C. to Squadron-Leader Farquhar, who on February 3 shot down an aeroplane after he had been recommended for distinction, was announced to-day. Described as having led his squadron with magnificent dash and courage on several occasions, Farquhar engaged the enemy while on patrol early this month.
The German aircraft took cover' in the clouds, but was followed and shot down by the British pilot, who put both engines of the enemy aeroplane out of action.
The squadron was engaged in the German raid on the Firth of Forth in October and Farquhar was also in that action which resulted in tho shooting down of the first raider to fall on British soil. His squadron last Thursday brought down a raider which landed near St. Abbs Head and he landed his own aircraft near the enemy crew in an endeavour to prevent them burning their bomber.
