OBITUARY

MR, W. BOND I NORTH SHORE RESIDENT The death occurred yesterday of a well-known North Shore resident, Mr. William Bond, of 20 Alexander Street, Dcvonporfc, at the age of 87. Born inBirmingham, England, in 185-J, Mr. Bond cum<3 to New Zealand when 12, landing at Devonport, where he had lived ever since. For 40 years, until the concern was sold to the Government, Mr. Bond was joint owner with his brother of a sawmill at Devonport. He is survived by a son and a daughter. MR. A. H. HALCOMBE [BY TELEGKAI'M —OWN* COIIItF.SI'OXDKNTj NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday The death has occurred of Mr. Arthur Herbert Halcombe, aged 70. of Urenui. .Air. Halcombe was a foundation member of the Taranaki Hunt Club, master of the hunt from 1015 to 1025, and club president from 1928 to 1937, since when he had been patron. Born at Feilding, Mr. Halcombe in 1902 married Miss Kate Clark, of Auckland, who died some years ago. From his family, after which the town of Halcombe, was named, was purchased the first Jersey cow to come to Taranaki. MRS. SARAH JANE CODLIN The death occurred yesterday of an old Auckland resident, Mrs. Sarah Jane Codlin, widow of the late Mr. George Thomas Codlin, in her 79th year. Mrs. Codlin was a daughter of Captain George Bowbottoin, of Nottinglv, Yorkshire, and arrived at. Auckland 62 years ago in the barque Stay Queen to join a brother who had preceded her to New Zealand. After her marriage to Mr. Codlin she lived for more 1 than 40 years in Ponsonby and Heme Bay, and a few weeks ago went to reside with a daughter, Mrs. V. J. Roberts, at Boyal Oak. She was left a widow 12 years ago. Mrs. Codlin is survived by three sons and four daughters, all of whom are resident in Auckland except one son, Mr. G. C. Codlin, formerly manager of the New Zkaland Herald and now of London. There are 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MRS. F. E. OULLEN [FROM OUII OWN CORRESPONDENT] PAPAROA, Judstliry The death Las occurred;-of Mrs. F. E. Cullen, of aged 66. Born in Lancashire, Mrs. Cullen came to Now Zealand at the age of 17 with her parents, the family settling on the Bryndenvyn Estate at Ma'uilgaturoto. Mrs. Cullen was prominently associated with the Congregational Church. She is survived by her husband, four sons and. three daughters. MADAME EVELYN de MATTNY [BY TELEGRAPH —PftfcSS ■ WELLINGTON, Tuesday The death has occurred of Madame Evelyn de Manny, wife of Mr. Leon de Manny, of Wellington. Madame de Manny, formerly Miss Evelyn Kate Harrison ~ was boi-n in London. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music, London. where she became official accompanist and gold medallist. At the Royal Academy of Music she was granted a licentiate. .■■■•/

Madame de Mauny arrived in New Zealand in 1923. Her work in duets with her husband and in trios with Mr. de '-Mauny (violin) and Mr. Claude Tanner ('cello) was a feature of many concerts during the past 15 tears. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons and one daughter."
