LAND FOR STATE HOUSES
PURCHASES IN WHANGAREI [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Friday Further areas for State houses have been purchased in Wlmngarei by the Government and negotiations are proceeding for other sites. In one block recently purchased it is intended to erect 17 houses, including two twounit homes, while on another section one two-unit house is to be built. The larger area adjoins a block on which 35 State houses are now being built. When all the sections already acquired by the Government are built upon' there will be nearly 100 State houses in Whangarei. Illustrating the difficulty still being experienced by persons in securing homes was an application before tlie last meeting of the Borough Council for permission to use a tent as a dwelling. Permission was declined.
