NEW PLEASURE CRAFT
LAUNCHING CEREMONY MODERN SEDAN CRUISER ■ " A new type of pleasure launch took the water, at the Western Reclamation yesterday afternoon, .when the sedan cruiser Kenya, which is -built on the latest American lines, was launched from the yards of Lidgard Brothers. The owner of.the boat is Mr. L. Heard, of Parnell, and the launching ceremony was performed by Mrs. Heard. It is intended to use the boat for deep-sea fishing, commencing with a northern cruise next 'week. The launch, which represents a novel departure in construction, is 43ft. long, lift. 6in. in beam and draws 3fi. 6in. It is driven by a 60 horse-power Diesel engine, and has a cruising speed of over nine knots. Besides a 13ft. main cabin and a 9ft. ladies' cabin, providing a total sleeping accommodation for eight,// the launch has an engine room also 9ft. long and a'cockpit 2ft. shorter. A fine finish is given to the woodwork by the use of Queensland maple inside and teak for outside fit- - tings. ■ Many modern facilities, including a gas stove and refrigerator, have been -- incorporated in the boat. On both sides
of the main cabin arc rows of plateglass windows, while the convenience of the crew has been considered in the provision qf double controls, one set in i_ the cockpit and the other in the interior. '
