ARSON ADMITTED
GROCER FOR SENTENCE [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] • WELLINGTON, Wednesday Admitting a charge of committing arson by setting fire to a building in Wallace Street, Ernest Joseph Shriinpaged a grocer, was to-day comliMted to the Supreme Court for sentence. A grocery store managed by ShrimptotV was damaged by fire on January 4. ■ln a statement taken by the police accused said he was employed at £5 12s 6d as'manager of the shop and intended to purchase the business, but le had been unable to obtain the necessary £IOO deposit and became worried. He had a few drinks that day and his mind seemed to be blank, and he did not know what made him start the fire, except that lie was worried a 'id did not know what lie was doing. To counsel, Detective Smeaton said that as far as he knew Shrimpton had been "a perfect gentleman," and that nothing was known against him.
