DOBSON MINE DISPUTE

MEN LEAVING DISTRICT POSITIONS ON PUBLIC WORKS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] GBEYMOUTH, Tuesday There are no fresh developments in the Wallsend and Dobson mine disputes. The Grey Valley Workers' Union (the Dobson miners) met this morning, and a conference was held this afternoon between the union representatives and the mine management, but it proved fruitless. It is understood that the miners at their meeting to-day discussed the question of obtaining work in other directions and that a decision was also made to remove their tools from the mine on Thursday next. Already some men from the affected mines have had interviews with the State Placement Officer at Greymouth, and it is understood that a number of single men will this week proceed to Bruce Bay, where they will be employed on Public Works Department jobs. Work is also available for a number of married men in the. Btiller district.

With the prospect of at least three weeks' idleness in such a short period after the Christmas and New Year vacation, the position is becoming serious with numerous families in the Brunner district.
