VISITING PLAYERS
AUSTRALIAN TENNIS TEAM ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND Three Australian girls, Miss Thelma Coyne, Miss Nancy Wynne and Miss Margaret Hardcastle, arrived at Auckland'by the Monterey yesterday morning. They are members of the Australian lawn tennis team which will take part in the New Zealand championship tournament (at Wellington. Shortly after the boat berthed they left for Hamilton, where they played an exhibition match, later travelling to Wellington by train. They also expect to visit Christchurch, and will return to Auckland to join the Mariposa, which sails for Sydney on February 17. Except for a day spent in Auckland when on their way home from a tour of England and the United States of America in 1938, this is the first time that Miss Coyne and Miss Wynne have visited New Zealand. Miss Hardcastle will be remembered as the winner of the singles title in the New Zealand lawn tennis championships held in Christchurch last January, <and she has many memories of her month spent in the Dominion. All three are disappointed that they will not be spending more time in the Dominion, and hope they will be able to fit a visit to Rotorua 'into their hurried tour. Miss Coyne is the only member of the trio who works, her job being with a Sydney sports firm, a position filled bv manv well-known Australian players, "in spite of the fact that most of their time is taken up with tennis, which they play continuously for four months of the year, and practise all the "veaf;round, "all three have many other interests. Swimming is their auxiliarv sport in the summer, and golf in the winter. All are interested in photography, and Miss Coyne and Miss Wvnne have several albums filled with photographs taken during their eight months' tour in England and America. These two are also enthusiastic drivers and own their own cars.
