OLDEST EX-SOLDIER

The oldest returned soldier in New Zealand, Mr. Tom McLellan, who enlisted when he was 65, and who is now 87, is visiting Wellington from Opunako. He went to take part in the Eucharistic Congress returned soldiers' procession and to see the Exhibition. Mr. McLellan, who was born in Nova Scotia, and who spent many years voyaging round the world in sailingships, left Wellington for the last war witli the Twenty-first Reinforcements, Hawke's Bay Regiment. He gave his age as 42. If lie were 20 years younger he would enlist again, said Mr. ilcLellan. The British Empire was worth fighting for, and men in New Zealand should readily answer the call to the colour*.
