MUTTON BIRD EXPORTS

UNITED STATES INTEREST [bt telegraph—OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Friduy New Zealand mutton birds are shortly to be sent to the United States for the first time. An order has been Teceived by Mr. Arthur Leader, of Riverton, for four large kits of specially selected mutton birds, which he proposes to obtain from Pukemeka Island, at the extreme south of Stewart Island, where high quality birds are found. Each bird, after plucking, cleaning and dressing, will be about lib. lOoz. in weight. It is understood that the price for this special classification will be 2s 6d for each bird, and if the shipment arrives in good order it is possible that a fair business may result.
