TWO HORSES KILLED
POWER LINE FOULED i HAY-STACKER TOUCHES WIRE DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Two horses were killed on the property of Mr. J. Edwards, of Horsham Downs, when a hay-stacker they were drawing struck the main high tension electric-power lines from Arapuni to Auckland this afternoon. As a result power was cut off for some time. One of the linos broke and fell, the electric current travelling along the shaft of the stacker and striking the two horses. The owner, who was directing the horses with reins, did not feel any shock. The switches at Arapuni "tripped" immediately and power throughout the district was cut off for six minutes. Power was restored to Auckland along the two unbroken lines.
The stoppage in the city was a few minutes longer than the 'duration of the actual breakdown, owing to the fact that the transformer stations at King's Wharf and Hobson Street had to be restarted. Tram services were held up for 11 minutes.
