BUSHMAN'S DEATH
CAUGHT BETWEEN LOGS EVIDENCE AT INQUEST REFUSAL TO GO TO HOSPITAL [i'ltO.M OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Friday All inquest into tho death of Kerepaehi Hemipo Hamilton, aged 47, a Maori bush worker, of Oruanui, who died in the Wuikato Hospital last night as the result of an accident, was opened before the coroner, Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., to-day. The accident occurred at Oruanui on December 18. Deceased was employed at Tuck's mill and was guiding a log which was being pulled. Tho log rolled, and deceased was caught between it and another log. Both his thighs woro fractured. The injured man was attended by Dr. Armstrong, of Taupo, but ho refused to go to hospital. Gas gangrene sot in and he was removed to the Rotorua Hospital yesterday. He was immediately transferred to tho Waikato Hospital. An operation was performed soon after his admission, but he died later. Evidence was given by Dr. Eben Wilson at tho inquest to-day that the cause of death was gas gangrene and toxemia, followed by heart failure. In answer to the coroner, witness said that deceased would havo lived had he received hospital treatment following the accident. Tho inquest was adjourned until tho date of tho next Court sitting at Rotorua.
