ANNUAL TOURNEY

COUNTRY WEEK GAMES MATCHES AT THE DOMAIN WICKETS ASSIST BOWLERS Rain did not unduly delay the commencement of the third day's play in the Country Week tourney of the Auckland Cricket Association for the Hcllaby Shield, played at the Domain yesterday. The wickets, however, were of assistance to the spin howlers before lunch, and the batsmen could not take any liberties. As the wiclccts dried out during tho afternoon there was little, between the ascendancy of bowlers or batsmen. As yet no batsman has scored a century, but two "hat-tricks" have been credited to the bowlers. It. Morgan, the Thames captain, was successful on Tuesday, when he took three wickets for 10 runs, and yesterday A. Coutts, of llangitaiki, with four wickets for <l6 runs, also dismissed three batsmen witli successive balls. Chief interest centred in tho meeting of Pukekohe, holder of tho Hcllaby Shield, and Thames, which were level in points at the end of Tuesday's play. Thames had first use of No. 2 wicket and R. Burrett in scoring 43 was the only batsman to be really confident against the strong Pukekoho attack, coupled with smart fielding, and the side was out for 113. M. Burgess, tho Pukekoho slow spinner, getting a lot of turn on the hall, finished with the fine figures of eight wickets for 48 runs. When Pukekoho went in to bat the wicket was but it lost- two wickets early. However, a fine partnership between J. Oien and L. Johnson, 05 and 64 respectively, gave Pukekohe the lead and a four-point win. On No. 3 wicket R-ingiiaiki and Waihi provided an interesting finish. Rangitaiki batted first and compiled 142 against the steady bowling of F. Wilkes, who took six wickets for 60, and V. Payne. G. Moore, A. Coutts and R. Thompson were the most aggressive batsmen. Although Rangitaiki varied its attack, the Waihi batsmen carried the score steadily aloug, P. Stace, who was undefeated with 70, giving a splendid exhibition of sound stroke play. Rangitaiki's total was passed with the loss of five wickets, AVaihi being out for 171 and gaining a four-point win. On No. 4 wicket Waipa batted first against Hamilton's steady and varied attack. R. Rogers, who took six wickets for 50, earning a lot of rcspeqt. J. Larsen and R. Finn, with 59 and 57 respectively, provided a valuablo partnership in a total of 151. The Hamilton batsmen were troubled with Burnett's spinners and tho side had lost five wickets for 10-1 runs when rain stopped play at 5.15 p.m., the match resulting in a draw, two points each. Rodney was opposed to Auckland on No. 1 wicket, and, batting one man short, was dismissed for the meagre total of 45. M. Winter, with four wickets for f 1 runs, being particularly hard to iiluy. Auckland lost an early wicket through a misunderstanding between the batsmen, but Winter. 53 retired. and James, 03. were seen in a sound partnership. Rodnry hail lost one wicket for 65 runs -in its second innings when rain stopped play for the day, giving a four-point win to Auckland. The highest score of the day was compiled by P. Stacc (Waihi), 79 not out. Other principal scorers were:—J. Oien (Pukekohe), 65; L. Johnson (Pukekohe), 04 retired; M. James (Auckland), G3; L. Larsen (Waipa). ."ill; E. Finn (Waipa), 57; M.
