Bells on Christmas Eve
The bells they softly echo From the church's steeple tower, Where the flakes of snow lie scattered Like the petals of a flower. Their silver peals creep lightly Down the belfry's shadowed stair, To mingle with the music Of the organ playing there. But Without, their rising chorus Sharply lingers in the air, To fade and drift and come as Soft as whispers of a prayer. Oh, hear the anthem of the bells, The sweetness of their hymn; 'Twill linger when the memory Of Christmas Eve is dim. —By Eleanor McKinnon (13), D.M.B.Q.
