SECESSION MOVE

KAWHIA SOUTH RATEPAYERS [from our own correspondent] TE KITITI, Thursday A meeting of the Kawhia South ratepayers of the Kawhia County met at Te Anga hall to discuss the question of seceding from the Kawhia County and the prospect of joining the Waitomo County. Mr. R. Miln presided. It was contended that the Kawhia County was so small that the administrative expenses absorbed by the engineering and office services were abnormally high, and that although the Kawhia South section, embracing the Waihnrakeki, Taharoa and Marakopa ridings, far outweighed the capital value of the northern portion, the north had four riding members as against three in the south and that there had always been a strong bias for the north to the dissatisfaction of the south. The following motion, proposed by Mr. S. Vicary and seconded by Mr. G. Gordon, was carried by 60 to four:— "That a committee be set up to obtain all information possible from the Kawhia and Waitomo»Counties with a view to the amalgamation of Kawhia South with the Waitomo County." The following were elected to the committee:—Messrs. E. Miln, S. Vicary, J. Twomey, E. Smith and E. Everett.
