NEW CRONIN PICTURE
The mining scenes, including the disaster so vividly described by A. J. Cronin in the novel, "The Stars Look Down," will take about three weeks to shoot, jn tlie film version, which is under way. No attempt has been, made to mitigate their painfulness. None of the characters trapped in the pit, including the footballer, played by Desmond Tester, will escape in the film version written by Dr. Cronin and J. . B. Williams; David Fenwick—Michael Redgrave—will lose his faithless wife; the villain of the piece, played by , Emlyn Williams, will end up triumphant, owning the pit in which ljves have been lost through his callous greed. Such austere honesty is rare in English and American films, and it will be ' interesting to see how the public reacts.
