"Life's Troubled Bubble..."
All the Way from Fairyland I sau) the hungry Iron-O Round mouth tilted on its stand, Mocking the reluctant foe; And Puck, in khak'> grinned at me. "Your little World of fantasy Has crumbled into dust, he sa/a— And 10, I'm lying with the deadt 0 Love, my Love, my iris-lipped! 1 never knew the scales Were tipped; Nor you, nor you, my friendly brother, Knew u)e were to fight each other. What ostriches we are in youth! What grasping after Beauty—Truth!
Of pebbles five the faint gave To David, dropped them in his quiver, And he was young and very brace, And dared alone to cross the river To where the lordly Philistine Was breaking up his World, and mine. Oh, could I hear the song once sung, I'd sing it now among the slain, Before the victory stone is flung, That the young hearts might sing again. And all the earth break fresh and free From iron mouth and mockery. —Gloria Rawlinson, Auckland.
