ASSAULT ON OLD MAN
BOOT REPAIRER FINED
A charge of assaulting a 77-year-old man who had shared the same room with him in a Hobson Street boardinghouse for several months was denied by Carl Anger, boot repairer, aged 46, in the Police Court yesterday. Sub-Inspector Pender said there was some argument when accused arrived home under the influence of liquor late on Thursday night. He struck his roommate, Thomas George Bray, over the head with a broom handle, cutting and bruising his head, and he also threw him twice against a stairway. Accused denied striking complainant, and alleged that he suffered his injuries by falling against a railing while attempting to attack accused with the broom handle.
The magistrate, Mr. J. Morling, imposed a fine of £5.
