GRUMBLING FARMERS
Sir, —I was glad to read the letter by Mr. J. C. McLennan. The farmers certainly work long hours and no one begrudges them good pay, but how a lot of them grumble and begrudged higher pay for their helpers! This probably lias something to do with the scarcity of farm labour. Even the grumblers, or many of them ? acknowledge that the guaranteed price is good, though they will not give the credit to the Labour Government.
Not all the farmers grumble, though one farmer with, I suppose, about 150 acres and 80 cows, told me that after all expenses were paid, including labour, lie made £8 average profit weekly for the year. Ho is a share-milker. Tho owner got about £9 weekly. I wonder how many farmers would be willing to give up the guaranteed price. Very few, if any. Then why not givo credit to tho energv and work of tho present Government £ Justitia.
