OBITUARY
MR. J. H. E. TILLING [by telegraph—ovrs correspondent] •WELLINGTON. Tuesday The death lias occurred of Mr. J. 11. E. Tilling, who was well known throughout the Dominion for his work on behalf of the New Zealand South African War Veterans' Association. Mr. Tilling, who was in'his sixties, was born in England and served in the South African War as a member of the Imperial Yeomanry. He came to New Zealand after the war. Mr. 'filling's work for the South African War veterans occupied a great deal of his time, and the nigh esteem in which lie was hold by the association was shown by the fact that its last Dominion conference awarded him its special gold badge. He was secretary for 16 years, holding office until headquarters of the association were shifted to Christchurch about two years jigo. Ho is survived by his wife and two daughters.
MR. J. A. McINNES [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] WHANGATtEI. Tuesday The death has occurred at Wliangarei of ZNIr. John, Alexander McTnncs, aged 80, of Kami. Mr. McTnncs Mas horn in Auckland seven months after his parents arrived from Scotland and three months later the family moved to Whangarei, settling at Kauri. Fifty years ago 31 r. chines took up land at Martin, hut returned 30 years later to Kauri. His wife, who predeceased him, was the last of the Margaret's passengers that came from Nova Scotia to AVaipu.
