PIONEER WOMEN

RECEPTION PLANNED DESCENDANTS INCLUDED CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS [bt telegraph—nwx correspondent] WELLINGTON, Monday One of tlie most interesting celebrations so far as the women's section of the exhibition is concerned, and certainly one with nrjich historical significance, will be a reception to be held shortly for women pioneers and direct descendants. This will take place in the lecture hall adjoining the women's court. There are, of course, very few really old pioneers left and as their descendants are now somewhat legion, the invitation list will perforce have to be limited to a stated number. A feature of the reception will be a parado of period costume covering fashions of the last 100 years. Much rehearsal is being undertaken for this parade, a,s deportment and poise are so necessary for the wearing of some of the costumes and hats. Afternoon tea will be served and it is anticipated that over the teacups many reminiscences of bj'gone days will be related. The committee responsible for the occasion will consist of the Mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, who is president of the women's section; Mrs. Knox Gilmer, convener of the Women's Pioneer Celebrations Committee; Lady Roberts, Lady Norwood, Mrs. C. E. Todd, Mrs. E. P. Norman, Mrs. G. F. Jtuld, Mrs. C. E. Carter, Mrs. M. J. Bentley, Mrs. E. J. Moore, J.P., Mrs. B. L. Daliard, Mrs. G. P. H. Davidson and Miss Dorothy Tanner. A number of members of this committee are also active members of the Early Settlers' Association , who really started off the centennial celebrations in September when they celebrated the landing of tho official party from the Tory on her arrival in 1839 from England.
