POLITICAL GAMBLERS
Sir, —Mr. Savage's reply to Mr. Goodfellow produced in me feelings of absolute disgust—a disgust which has been increasing; for some time. To speak of Mr Goodf el low 's sound advice as "beneath contempt" is in itself contemptible. But my disgust arises from more than this. Do our political leaders not realise 'that the appalling state to which this country has been reduced arises from their own actions? "Will they never learn anything? The overweening ambition of these people knows no bounds —there seems to be nothing that they believe themselves unable to achieve. The tone in which they speak is growing more and more arrogant. Such heights of intoxication, such self-idolising were seldom reached in any country. Thenlegislation ii> wholly class legislation—they are vacillating on conscription and totallv unprepared for the war. The war is a god-send to them as an excuse for more power —more restriction. What have they brought us? Nothing but anxiety and" restriction, more taxes and higher cost of living. From our anxiety for our country is emerging tKb oppressive feeling that we shall be overwhelmed in a catastrophe. I suggest that it is time that our chambers of commerce, our farmers, our doctors, importers, our fruitgrowers, called a public _ meeting to protest against the idiotic and senseless policy of our present political leaders. It is time some action was publicly taken, and while a public meeting of protest may not itself produce much result, "it would lead to other avenues of opposition to these political gamblers. . Junius.
