SUCCESS OF IRRIGATION
OPERATIONS IN AUSTRALIA Tribute to the success of Australian irrigation schemes Was paid yesterday by Mr. Hendry Luke, who lias returned from a visit to Sydney. He said that before water was brought to the land in the 'Mildura district, it would carry only a few sheep. The area iiow blossomed, and from 33,000 acres about ,£3.000,000 was taken annually from the sale of citrus, dried and other fruits. The eastern States were enjoying a splendid season, the country being kneedeep in grass. Already warnings were being issued to prepare for fires, which would surely come with the dry weather.
