DIRECT _ATTACKS FRENCH SUCCESS AT LEAST ONE SUNK BODIES RECOVERED By Tolograph—Pross Association— Copyright (Received October 29, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 28 French destroyers and seaplanes carried out soveral direct attacks on TJ-boats on Friday in -undisclosed waters, says tlio Paris correspondent of tho British United Press. At least one submarine was sunk. It was torn apart by a depth boinb. Tho bodies of a number of tho crow wero recovered by fishing boats or washed ashoro. It has been revealed that between 50 and 60 bodies wero landed at Dover from tho U-boat tho shattered wreckage of which was reported, to have been found on the Goodwin Sands. An official German communique for tlio first timo montions submarine losses. It states:—"Thus far three U-boats aro overdue and mupt be presumed to be lost. "Economic warfare in tho Baltic, North Sea and Atlantic continues to bo successful. Our naval units confirm tho sinking between October 18 and 22 of 22 ships, of a total tonnage of 109,370. Tho foreign press reports a further three sinkings, of a total tonnage of 12,606. "The total enemy losses since the war," adds the German communique, "are 115 ships of a gross tonnage of 475,321. Because unconfirmed reports have been disregarded, it must be presumed that tho real number is considerably higher. In spite of our successes in tho trade war, our own losses are very small."
