GENERAL SITUATION /RAIN IN THE SOUTH The wenther report nnd forecast for Now Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows:—An anti-cyclone extends on to northern Now Zealand, but pressure has fallen rapidly in tho soutji with the approach of a rather intensive westerly depression. Winds. —Northerly at first from Cook Strait southward, but a cliango to south-westerly advancing from tho south during the night; between west and south continuing over the North Island,' becoming moderate to strong generally. Seas. —New Zealand waters: Rather rough to roujib on tho west coast and about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight or moderate, but later rising off shore south of East Capo. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong winds between south-west and west, possibly rising to gale force in tho southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. Weather. —Mainly fair in tho Auckland Province; elsewhere cloudy and unsettled, with some rain probable in most districts, hut more especially in tho south.
