FIFTY YEARS AGO
DUNEDIN EXHIBITION Preparations for the Dunedin Exhibition were well under way 50 rears ago, and exhibits from the various Australian states were beginning to arrive in New Zealand. The following is an extract from the New 1 Zealand Herald of October 30, 1889: "The first portion of the An&oAustralian collection' of pictures has arrived. The New South Wales picture gallery is Hearing completion. Besides colonial artists, several old masters will be shown. Four fresh-water tanks from Queensland have been received for the aquarium. The Tarawera brought 150 „cnses of exhibits for tha Victorian Court, including glass manufactures, paintings, chemicals, wines, etc. The same vessel brought 95 packages for the South Australian Court.
