MANUKAU CLUB'S SEASON

A large feathering of members and supporters of the Manukau Rovers' Football Club assembled in the Onehunga Drill Hall on Saturday evening, when the 1039 season was brought to a close by the presentation of trophies and the annual dance. Mr. W. Kirkham presided, the Auckland Rugby Union being represented by the president, Mr. H. Frost, and the chairman of the management committee, Mr. A. A. Baker. Reviewing the results of the season. Mr. Kirkham mentioned that although the senior team had not fulfilled expectations the lower grades had held their own, the senior reserve, fourth and fifth grades and senior boys teams having been runncrs-up in their respective competitions. The club secured third place in the Rugbv Union's Silver Football contest, after having held it for the previous four years. Mr. Kirkham added, that. 14 active members of the club had volunteered for active service, and were now in camp at Ngaruawahia. while several others wore waiting to be called up. . , A feature of the evening was the presentation of an illuminated address to Mr. C. J. Williams, for many years the club's secretary. The president's trophy for the best work in training was presented to M. McColl, and the cup for tho most improved player was awarded-to L. Kirrainc. The Metcalfe Cup for the best attendance was presented to the senior boys' toam, while Mr. Syers presented the Williams-Syers Shield to the fourth grade team, which was also awarded the Dodd Cup. The pennants , for the seven-n-sido Easter tournament wero presented to the senior boys' team. Trophies for the club's 100 yds championships were presented to D. Methcrall and S. Mclntyre (seniors), D. Boycr and P. J. Angus (intermediate), and R. Thompson and W. Eades (juniors).
