RED CROSS NEEDS

Sir, —As an officer of a country branch of the Red Cross, I should like to ask what position will New Zealand be in should war in any form invade our shores? We are asked by the Bed Cross auxiliary to have first-aid kits, niul also to knit stocks, scarves, balaclavas, etc., for our soldiers and sailors. We were unable to procure gauze for dressings, absorbent wool, or grey or khaki wool for knitting, from Auckland warehouses. In Saturday's Hkram> came a further list of import restrictions, among the commodities affected being barley, which is most necessary in cases of sickness, especially those of young children. How will our hospitals fare under these drastic restrictions. OXT.OOKEK.
