OBITUARY
MR. W. J. McCORMICK [n\* TEUXJIIAPIT —OWN- coiutespondknt] TE AROHA, Thursday The death has occurred of Mr. .William John MeCormick. aged 82, one of the first settlers in the Te Aroha district. Mr. McCormiek, who was born at Sumner, Canterbury, came to Te Aroha in 1878 to manage what is now known us Laird's Estate for the late Mr. F. M. Strange. When the estate was sold Mr. MeCormick took a similar position on the present Otwav Estate until 1888. when he purchased a property of his own at Elstow, which he fanned until about 18 years ago, when he retired to live at llerriesville. In his youth Mr. MeCormick was keenly interested in athletics and football and at one time be held the Thames Valley championship for tossing the caber and throwing the hammer. He was also a championship .shot. Mr. MeCormick is survived by his widow and one daughter, Miss N. E. MeCormick.
