FORM REVIEWED WAIKATO HUNT RACES SUB-EDITOR REGAINS DASH BRIDEGROOM FAILS BADLY BY BOBRIIvOFF Favoured with perfect weatlier, the Waikato Hunt experienced a record meeting at Cambridge on Monday. Although backers were not often on the mark, some keen racing was witnessed, the jumping events in particular arousing much enthusiasm. The highlight of the day was the success of Sub-Editor in the Waikato Hunt Cup and his dividend of over four score on the straight-out machine. It was his first victory since he won the Ladies' Bracelet at the same meeting seven yenrs ago. bub-Editor has done little racing during the last two tr three seasons and, when he made his first appearance for some time at Tauranga recently to finish a close fourth in the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase, he gave indications of a belated return to form. His win was well merited on Monday, for, after giving a splendid exhibition of jumping and making the pace for most of the journey, he stayed on very gamely at the finish to stall Off Little Briton.

The disappointment of the race was the Awapuni candidate Bridegroom, who was made a firm favourito. Bridegroom showed no dash at ; all, and was being hard ridden in the first mile to keep within reach of tho leaders. He was eventually pulled up in tho second round, and was in a distressed condition on returning to the birdcage. Saint Musk gave his usual dashing display of jumping until he hit a fence six furlongs from home, and this settled his chance. The New Plymouth mare Lady Jim, who won the Taranaki Hunt Cup last month, jumped brilliantly and made a bold showing for two and a-half miles, after which sho tired badly.

Promenade Impresses Although ho could only run third in the Farmers' Steeplechase, the performance of Promenade was striking. He was standing up the leaders half a furlong with a mile to go and if his; effort had been made sooner it is probable that he would have been the winner. Promenade, who is a splendid type of jumper, is an aged gelding by the Limond horse Resinous, from a Postillion mare. Running ono of his characterise races in front, Very Glad brought off a surprise by winning the Members' Memorial Handicap. The Tinakoa gelding has gone good races in good company lately, and his improved appearance on this occasion suggested that he would be difficult to beat. Philcourt did not appear to hit out too freely in the early stages, but his fine finishing effort was reminiscent'of his good three-year-old form. Rcyevrus was expected to repeat his Mitchelson Cup success, but, after being badly drawn at the barrier and making an effort to get a position early, ho failed over the last half furlong. Ho was beaten only by a narrow margin for third, so was far from disgraced under his weight. Cheval do Voice did not show up at any stage, but

he looked as if the race would do him a lot Of good. In appearances Our Jean looked a Defter filly than when she raced at Ellerslie, and hci fine win in the Bollard Memorial Handicap was achieved in Ihe manner of a class

three-year-old. She conceded the speedy Orwere a good break in the early stages, but. making a sustained run over the last threo furlongs, she heat him pointlessiy.- Brazen Bold shaped as if he were feeling the effects of his recent racing, but one who should bo all the better for the race is Corato, who looks in splendid order. Gaine's Choice as Hurdler

Of tho hurdlers, nono impressed more than Gaine's Choice, who, although ho was inclined to jump erratically at some of his fences, finished well into second place behind Cadger. It was only his second start over hurdles and he is likely to make more improvement than most of the others. Gaine's Choice proved that he is riot lacking in pace and stamina by coming out later in the day 'o win the Ladies' Bracelet Handicap. Owing to Ihe large fields* and the difficulty in which some of the runners marie, the home turn, many of those in the hack evenls had their chances prejudiced. Wildore won the Bardowie Handicap in solid style, and. judging by the manner in which he was staying on, ho should not be troubled -by a middle distance. An unusual feafuro regarding Wildore, who is by Oration from the Catmint mare Wild Mint, is that ho is a twin foal. Starbright. who has shown speed in his few starts to dale, finished in a style that suggested that he , would soon get on the winning list. LTe is well enough bred, being by Colossus from Beautiful Star, by Starstream from Musical Moment, by Merry Moment from En Parole, by Finland from Gossip, Good galloriers from this family have been Bobrikoff Tete-a-Tete Finiriark. Estland and High'nnd. Devon's brilliant finish from the rear of the field in tii" Bruntwood Handicap to gain third indicated that ho Is much improved and he is not likely to be neglected the next lime he is seen out over a middle distance. He showed outstanding promise for 'i novice hurdler last winter and he should not bo hard -to place in future. Ora_ King went a good race under difficulties and he impressed as being a very likely improver. Dauber, Royal Messngo and Surmise are others who may soon bo .seen to better advantage.
