The cheqne, which was posted from the head.office of firm in Wellington, was for the payment of wages and commission. It is understood that the cheque, an open one, was placed in the post office box on Sunday night and was removed some time before the following morning, being cashed at the bank soon after the hour of opening. The firm did' not at first realise that the theft had taken place, the management believing that the cheque had missed the mail. Later, however, inquiries revealed that it had been cashed soon after it was stolen. /. ;
