OWNER'S GOOD DAY WINS FOR MR. E. FITZGERALD N. VAUGHAN ~ INJURED v [BV TKLEGHAru— OWN CORItESPONDKNT*] GISBORNJS, Thursday ! A feature of (he Poverty Bay races to-day was the success of the owner, Mr. E. Fitzgerald, whose' horses gained five firsts and a. second. The trainer I. Tinsley; had six winners in seven events. The Discovery Hurdles proved easy for Birkology. ■ He and Small Boy lay in behind Whetu and Paul Robeson for (ho greater part of the distance. Turning for home, Whetu, Small Boy, Paul Robeson and Birkolojry were lined across Ihe track, but the last-named came away to win decisively by over a length from Small Hoy, who finished gamolj under pressure. AVhetu, who was made a lot of use of, hit tho lasl fence. Paul Robeson looks likely to improve. After getting all the best of the start. >;a.tive Song had no trouble in winning the Nick's Head Handicap/ He was three lengths clear of Golden Flame, Mendelssohn, Opoho and Reay Bridge and just cantered ! pastthe post from Opoho, who- was hard ridden, and Reay Bridge. Mendelssohn should bo improved by the race. Fairy Foe gave a lot of trouble at the barrier, the field being despatched without her. ■ - Bold Step, Golden Blonde,; and Gay Mimic raced in close order in the Flying Handicap, but the last-named came away' in the straight to win by a length from Bold Step, with Golden Biondo close up third. The winner won really well. The field gave a lot of trouble a I (ho start of the Makaraka Handicap, De Friend eventually getting away best, while Hu.itr.ig Mint was badly left and took no part in tho race. Do Friend led throuphont' arid won wilh something in hand from Skyway, wit!. Pennycontequick beaten off. . , The Eudeuvour Scurry field went off tn a straggling start, the best served..being Taliarakau,' Cymetic ami .\o Wonder, while Kin* carole, Native Chief and. Millions headed the second bunch. Taharakau was well blear entering the straight, and looked all over a winner, when Native Chief flashed up halfway down the straight and went, on to win easily. Waikawn, Millions and Kincarolc finished close up. Lovelilt. Queen's Dream and Oav Lnura was the; order out from the barrier in the Kosnland Handicap, and it was maintained until entering the straight, where Queen's Dream ranged up alongside Lovelilt, and Gay Laura weakened. Queen's Dream then came on to win nicely from Lovelilt, with Ga.v Laura third. ;

Mimicry and ,Smiling Personality were* soon in front in the October Hack Handicap. Proclamation received a." bad check going across the top and went back to. last. Minnow ran wide at the straight entranco and Smiling Personality caino on to score easily from Mimicry,.with Proclamation, who made a fast run in the straight, third.

The 'jockey N. Vaughnn, rider of Fniry Foe in the'. Flying Handicap, suffered a nasty fall. Fairy Foe refused to go near the barrier and, after the field had been let. go without liini. lie set off in • mirsnit. He travelled a furlong and then fell heavily. Vangliaii .appeared all right, but, after riding in the next two races, lie was sent to hospital suffering from "slight concussion.
