Under the Public Traffic Regulations. 1939, for the Port of Auckland, the Motukoreho Channel and the passage south of Motukoreho Island are closed to all traffic, for entering the Port. . It is realised that this Regulation will cause some inconvenience to pleasure craft during the summer months, and it has been decided by the Naval and Military Authorities to relax the regulation for craft wishing to use Motukoreho Channel for entering the Port if the Yacht and Motor-Boat Association and its affiliated clubs are prepared to assist the Authorities in controlling the traffic by enforcing the enclosed procedure. It must be understood that if this is to continue it is essential that (1) There are no craft left In the dangerous area after dark. This area consists of area enclosed by lines joining East Tamaki Head 10 degrees to Emu Point, Motutapn and Bastion Point 20 degrees to foreshore Rangit'oto Island. (2) Every craft entering by daylight is •ecognised and passed by the Patrol Vessel. It is therefore in the yacht and launch owners' own interests to see that this is carried out. PERMITS. —A Permit obtained from the Customs Boarding Inspector's Office, Queen's Wharf, is sufficient for the use of the Rangitoto Channel, which is open day and night, provided that all vessels repprt to the Examination Steamer when entering Port. Yacht and launch owners wishing to use the Motukoreho Channel must apply for permit through their clubs. Yachtsmen not belonging to clubs must apply in person to Nnval Control Service, Naval Base, Devonport. This permit will also authorise use of Rangitoto Channel. Regulations for the use of the Motukoreho Channel are as follows: — 1. —The channel is absolutely closed during the hours of darkness, which will bo fixed by notice in the press. Tho channel between Brown's Island and East Tamaki Head is closed at all times for entering port 2.—No craft must be in the dangerous area quoted abovo during the hourß of darkness. In thick weather all craft must remain at anchor. 3.—Every Boat Owner will be required to mnko a Declaration containing:— Name of owner (or owners). Home address. Business address. Description of craft —colour, name rig, length. Number as icgistered with Yacht and Motor-Boat Association. Nationality of owner Undertaking as to responsibility for crew. 4.—The Naval Control of Shipping Officer will issue a permit giving authority for departure from, and entry to. the Port of Auckland by tho Motukoreho Channel, on presentation of the abovo by representatives of the Association and its clubs. r».—The Association and its affiliated clubs to bo responsible for seeing that nil craft or sails are marked with their Registered marks or numbers of their Permit before handing them to respective owners. o.—Motor craft to have their Permit number painted clearly on the hows. Numbers to lie at least eighteen inches in height. Sailing craft to have their Permit number or class number marked clearly on their sails. 7.—Every craft to close I'atrol Vessel when entering harbour, making certain they are recognised and passed before proceeding. Craft must come within hailing distance and be given word to proceed. 8. —Craft proceeding from Rangitoto Island must conform lo these regulations and close Patrol Vessel before entering harbour. This means nil craft east, of western line of prohibited area. i». —Islington Bay may be used as an anchorage for shelter during the hours of darkness; but when proceeding Inwards from thoro in daylight craft must close Patrol Vessel first. 10. —it is not necessary or desirable lo close Patrol Vessel when leaving tho port. 11.—Orders from Patrol Vessel must be obeyed implicitly.
