NON-EXISTENT DISASTERS ASSURANCE BY MR. FRASER NO WITHHOLDING OF NEWS [[BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Friday "\ 0 important information or news will*be withheld from the public," said the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P., Eraser, when replying to a. question asked bv Mr. J. A. Lee (GovernmentGrey Lvnn) in the House sentatives to-day. Mr. Fraser deplored the spreading of rumours and appealed, to the public not to believe wild accounts of non-existent disasters--, -v "A large number of people .in New Zealand are spreading all sorts of alarmist rumours at the moment." Mr. Lee said. Many members of Parliament were being asked to deny officially certain rumours, and he asked Mr. Iraser to make a statement advising the public of the impossibility of publicising falsehoods by denying them.-"-Mr. Fraser said that fantastic rumours reached him, including a variety relating to shipping. People who spread rumours were criminally responsible. He wished to assure the House and the country that nothing would be kept back, and he wished to ask people not to accept stories about New Zealand ships, 'n>or to expect, denials.
