INDIAN CONFERENCE
CONGRESS AND VICEROY ATTEMPTED MILL STRIKE (Received October •">. p.m.) British Wireless LONDON. Oct. 4 It is reported from India that on Monday tlio Congress leaders were granted an interview with the Viceroy. the Marquis of Linlithgow, which lasted for two hours. It is understood that no final conclusions were reached as other political leaders are to be seen by the V iceroy. The postponement of the All-India Congress committee meeting until Monday is thought to be due to the co'itinued presence in Delhi of Gandhi an I other important leaders, who arc in • conference. Meanwhile the Bombay Communist Hod Flag Union attempted to call out the cotton mill workers in the Bombay Presidencv on a one-day strike as a protest against the war. The strike proved a failure, only 50,000 workers out of a total of 250,000 being affected. No .strikes occurred in mill centres outside Bombay.
