WORLD WANTS PEACE
APPEAL BY POPE BROADCAST TO NATIONS NO JUSTICE BY VIOLENCE ROME, Auk. 24 Speaking in qniot. earnest tones, the Pope in a broadcast said: "At this grave hour 1 must talk of peace, Jesus wanted nil men to be brothers. I earn-; oxtly appeal to Governments, rulers and peoples. "Justice cannot he obtained by violence. War is futile. It causes only bloodshed and destruction in our fatherland. "We pray that the rulers will make the utmost elfort for pence. The hearts of mothers and fathers are beating with ours. The whole world wants peace, bread and work, not steel and war." GOODS FROM TURKEY GERMANS SEEK DESPATCH INTERPRETED AS WAR HINT ISTANBUL, Auk. 21 The German authorities have advised Turkish exporters to despatch before Tuesday all goods destined for Germany. All goods will be refused after this'date. It is feared that this is tantamount to a hint that war is imminent The Italians have already withdrawn all goods from the Customs, and Germans have ceased buying. Official quarters state that Turkey •adheres to her agreements with Britain and France, in spite of Nazi hopes SO win Turkey from the democratie front.
