RATHER UNSETTLED COOLER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast f or New Zealand issued by the. Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: — General Situation. —The situation is developing into one of the westerly type, one centre of low pressure being located west of the South Island, and another more important one over lasmania. Winds.—Becoming variable later i n the far south, but elsewhere moderate to strong north-westerlies to westerlies prevailing. . -j Seas. —New Zealand waters: A considerable but decreasing swell on the east coast of the South Island. Otherwise moderate, but rising soon on the west coast and about C'ook Strait. Eastern Tiismaii Sea: Strong westerly winds in the central portion, with rough seas but winds lighter both to the north anci to the south, with moderate but rising seas. Weather.—Unsettled in western districts and iu the far north and far south, with intermittent rain developing. Some heavy falls are likely in Westland, 'Otago and Southland, with occasional scattered light rain east of tlO ranges also. Temperatures somewhat cooler. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CHANGEABLE AND SHOWERY The Government meteorologist issued to the H r.K.w.n last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —.Moderate to fresh west to south-west winds. The weather is likely to be changeable, with occasional showers, and sunny intervals. .Moderate temperatures. Seas slight to moderate on the east coast, rather, rough on the west coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —l'"og in the early morning was followed by showers. The afternoon was fine, and occasional rain was experienced at night. The wind wai generally westerly. l>oin« light to moderate in strength. The maximum temperature was ."j" degrees, and the minimum 46 degrees. Barometric pressure was fairly steady. Barometer, midnight 29.47 in. (998 miilibars). Midnight. Sunday 29.50 in. (998 millibar* Wellington. —The day was overcast and mild, with >light rain in the early morning. A light north-west breeze blew. The maximum temperature was 5(5.2 degrees. At 6 p.m. the barometer reading was 29.43 in. (5106.7 millibars). Christchureh. —The day was overcast and mild, with light rain and a fresh easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 00.0 degrees. The barometer read 29.36 in. (991.3 millibars), at p.m. Dunedin. —Misty rain, accompanied by a light north-east breeze, prevailed. The maximum temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer reading was 29Join. (997.3 millibars).
