LACK OF THEATRE
POSITION AT MANUREWA BOROUGH COUNCIL'S ACTION The lack of amusement facilities in tlio Manurewa district as a result of tho destruction of the local picture theatre by fire in/April u - as the subject of a, special report presented at the Manurewa Borough Council meeting. The Hall Committee, in its report, stated that it appreciated that if the hall was leased for the screening of motion pictures it would interfere with other local organisations which regularly used tho hall. At the same time tho council had a responsibility in the matter raised by tho film licence holder. Tho committee recommended that the views of tho owners of the former theatre be ascertained and in tho event of no steps being taken to replaco the building the council consider erecting a municipal theatre. On the suggestion of tho Mayor, Mr. W. J. Ferguson, consideration of tho report was delayed pending a conference with tho owners of tho theatre sito and the former building. Tho conference was held in committee and on resuming in open council the Mayor announced that further action had been deferred pending additional information being supplied by tho owners, as to rebuilding proposals.
