AUCKLAND TRAVEL CLUB

TALKS BY TWO VISITORS Two nddrcsses .wore given to members of the Travel Club at the weekly morning tea in the Milne and Chovce Reception Hall on Friday. The chairwoman was Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell, and the hostesses were Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, Mrs. Stephen Barclay - and Mrs. Braham.

Mrs. J. Major, who has recently arrived in the Dominion from Budapest. gave an account of student life in Hungary. She explained that in many of the isolated parts of the country every member of a household was needed to help with the agricultural needs of the family, and in consequence a large part of the population in those districts was illiterate.

A description of her work as a county librarian was given by Miss M. Joyce Powell, of Surrey, England. Two songs were contributed by Mrs. Humphrey Gordon, for whom Mrs. M. Cully played the accompaniments. Floral shoulder sprays were presented to Mrs. Major, Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Gully and Miss Powell. Among the overseas and out-of-town guests were:—Miss F. Street (England), Mrs. C. L. Cooke (Australia), the Misses H. and P. «Borg (Fiji). Mrs. E. Baldev (Wellington), Mrs. W. A. Wiles aiid 'Mrs. W. S. Clark (Christchurch).
