YOUNG KIWI FOUND
BIRD IN WAIOEKA VALLEY [by telegraph OWN correspondent] OPOTIKI, Thursday An Opotiki sportsman, Mr. McGregor, while pig-hunting in the Waioeka Valley, located a kiwi in a hollow log on the property of Mr. A. J. MacRae, of Oponae. The bird, which was young, was stated to be in good condition. This is the second occasion that a kiwi has been observed in this locality. Some years ago a* kiwi was found at Woodlands, only a few miles from Opotiki borough. It is hoped that the kiwis will thrive in the Waioeka district, which offers plenty of suitable cover.
