PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WON BY R. CARRICK '• • iThe final session of the Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship for -the Billiards, Limited, Shield, was played last evening at Messrs. Billiards, Limited's, showrooms, when M. D. White, the shield holder, lost to R. Carrick by 43 points alter a fine contest. ' . White, with one unfinished break of 38, _ commenced the session. He added only weight " points to this break. Carrick added a run of . 24 to his total at his first , visit, but miscued when playing well. He gave a nice allround display in a run of 43 at his next; visit. White played, steadily for two runs of over 20. Carrick responded withone of .25. Carrick gave an entertaining display in an all-round break of 73, just failing.over a.slow "screw shot. He had made up a good number of points at this stage, the scores being 590 to 557 in favour of White. • Carrick was in again at his next visit,j and a well-played break of 53 gave him the lead. White regained the lead, however, and< earned applause for a steady break of oi. Ho. mixed his game judiciously, but scored most: of his points by the half-ball losing hazard* * which is a featuro of his play. He was,, playing consistently nt lls rT ,. s^age V;„ a i lt L. 0 '? further bredk of 42 resulted. The scoring was of an even nature during the next stage-«tv the game.' Carrick then compiled a useful nm-: of 52. He was making a good effort .to wipe off his deficit. The scores at this stage read' 783 to 7SO in favour of the shield IIO S players earned applause for some clever individual strokes. Play became-ex-, citing at this stage of the same, when Camck. registered an all-round run of 49. This gave him the lead at 930 to 923. Carried misiudced a fairly easy pot, and_ White added a run of 20 to his total. Carrick clinched the-: match by running to points with an unfinished break of 45. The final scores were:—R- Carrick, 1000 (breaks of 24, 44, 52 25, 49 and 45, unfinished); M. W. White, 957, breaks of 46, 2S, 24, 54, 42, 21 and, 2S Mr S. C. Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland Billiards Association, congratulated the players on their fine efforts, and presented "the shield to the winner also special trophy to commemorate , his Tho runuer-up also received a trophy, rhe pi avers eulogised tho conditions under which the* championship was played. . - - Both the winner and the runner-up v.ill bp Auckland's official representatives in the.forthcoming New Zealand amateur championships, which will commence on Monday mornnig.
