SUNKEN DREDGE RAISED

WHANGAREI HARBOUR NEW PLANT SUGGESTED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday Reporting on the sinking of the Whangarei Harbour Board's grab dredge at the beginning of the month, the engineer, Mr. W. M. Fraser, stated at a meeting of the board to-day that the dredge had been raised and beached. An examination showed that a large part of the timber in the hull was badly decayed or worm-eaten, and it was questionable whether expenditure on it would be warranted. It was also doubtful whether the old machinery would be worth replacing on a new hull. The board decided that the engineer should furnish a report on the cost of reconditioning the old dredge and also on the cost of a modern unit.
