FOOD AT INFIRMARY

' A COMPLAINT RESENTED INVESTIGATION BY COMMITTEE "I can only regard this as a libel on the whole of the staff of the institution," stated Mr. G. T. Parvin at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board, when a letter was received from a Grey Lynn woman com'plaiiling of the food served in the Kelvey Ward at the Auckland Infirmary. It was alleged that the women in the ward said they could not eat the food they were receiving, that the tea was cold, and that they had to depend on their friends to bring them things to eat. .Tliere was no institution in the Dominion which prepared better meals than the infirmary, Mr. Parvin contended. Money could not buy better food, ifhd ho Avas satisfied that the cooking and serving of the meals could not be equalled by many private hotels. "If it is vita ted that the patients cannot cat the food, it is a downright lie," said Mr. J. H. Kinnear. "At a recent, meeting of the Infirmary Committee tliere was a complaint that the tea Vas being served too hot." Mrs. M. M. Dreaver. Dr. J. P. Hastings and Mr. J. V. Maeky emphasised the for a diet supervisor at the infirmary, _in order that patients should receive food appropriate to their conditions. The complaint was referred to the Infirmary Committee for investigation.
