STAY AT POLE

ELLSWOBTH'S PLAN WEATHER INVESTIGATION STUDY OF THE ICE-CAP FIFTH JOURNEY' IN 1940-41 By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August G, S.lO p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 0

Before leaving for Norway to secure a base ship to replace the Wyatt Earp, which he sold to tho Australian Government, Mr. Lincoln Ellsworth announced that he plans to spend the summer of 19-10-41 at tho South Pole. "I would like to dig into the polar ice-cap to see what can be learned of Antarctic weather," he said. " The various layers beneath tho surface should bo as revealing historically as the rings of a tree." The fifth Ellsworth expedition will be independent of tlio Government expedition under Admiral Byrd, but will co-operato closely. Tlio Buonos Aires correspondent of tho New York Times says the Argentine public is vigorously demanding that the Government should send an expedition to the Antarctic to protect its territorial claims, and it is suggested that a naval transport which is relieving the observers at the Argentino observatory in tho South Orkneys should continue to tho Wcddell Sea.
